Frequently Asked Questions and Answers

A. Our six-passenger stretch limousines have room for six passengers with five standard size checked pieces of baggage only. For a group of six passengers with six standard size checked suitcases plus six carry-ons, we recommend the nine-passenger van.
A. Yes, but for a 'credit card not present' transaction you will have to send us credit card charge authorization with clear images of both sides of your credit card. Click here to print the charge authorization form.
A. Your credit card will be charged after the service is completed. NOTE: Prior to service, an authorization hold will be placed on your credit card account for slightly more than the estimated cost of your reservation. The authorization hold request is a test, to confirm that your credit card is valid and has available funds to cover the cost of your reservation. If you decide to pay in cash, we will not charge your credit card and the authorization hold will be cancelled, thus rendering the balance available again. Holds may last as long as 30 days, depending on the policy of your credit card issuing bank.
A. You may cancel your reservation without charge by calling us two hours before pickup time. Email or fax cancellation notification requires 24 hours' notice. Cancellation of a bus reservation requires 24 hours' notice. If you give less notice than this, a late cancellation charge will be made to your credit card. The late cancellation charge may be equal to the reservation cost. Our telephone numbers are +1 (212) 366-6600 and +1 (800) 505-7724.
A. It normally takes around 30 minutes to clear passport control. However, the wait time varies considerably depending on the airport, terminal, time of year, day of the week, and time of day. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency monitors wait times at the busiest international airports and publishes the data on its website. The data, collected since 2008, show the average time it takes to clear passport control at each hour of the day. You can view the data here: U.S. Customs and Border Protection Wait Times. NOTE: The data DO NOT include the time it takes to gather luggage (around 20 minutes).
A. We don’t charge extra if your flight arrival time changes. We monitor all flight arrival time changes and we will update your reservation pickup time accordingly.
A. All our airport pickup rates include driver meet and greet. NOTE: Driver meet and greet is not available when the parking lot adjacent to the terminal has height restrictions, and vehicles such as high-top vans or buses are unable to park near the terminal. You can find your vehicle at the passenger pickup area outside the terminal, or request a VIP greeter at an additional charge.
A. We rarely charge for waiting time at the airport, because most passengers exit the airport within 45 minutes of their flight landing and our airport pickup rates include complimentary waiting time: 45 minutes for international arrivals and 30 minutes for domestic arrivals. The complimentary waiting time starts when your flight lands. The waiting time charge starts when the complimentary waiting time ends. The waiting time rate is equal to the vehicle hourly rate, and is charged in 15-minute segments.
A. Yes. You may ask that your driver arrives at the airport after the flight arrival time. For passengers arriving on an international flight, we recommend that the driver arrives at the airport 30 minutes after the flight lands. The complimentary waiting time will then start 30 minutes after the flight lands.
A. Yes we can provide child safety seats or booster seat. NOTE: A reservation with a request for child safety seats must be made at least 24 hours in advance.
CHILD PASSENGER SAFETY
New York State law requires children under the age of four to be restrained in a federally-approved car seat when riding in a motor vehicle. If the weight of a child under the age of four exceeds 40 pounds (18 kilograms), the child may be restrained in an appropriate child restraint system, allowing the child to use a booster seat. Children aged 4–7 must be properly secured in an appropriate child restraint system, one for which your child meets the weight and height recommendations of the child restraint manufacturer [Section 1229-c(1), NYS Vehicle & Traffic Law]. A child safety seat or harness/vest or booster seat may be used. As of November 24, 2009, the above requirement applies to all children until their 8th birthday.

In New Jersey, children up to age eight or a weight of 80 pounds (36 kg) must sit in a federally-approved safety or booster seat in the rear seat of the vehicle. Children under age eight and over 80 pounds (36 kg) must be in a rear seat and must use a seat belt.

In Connecticut, children must sit in a proper child safety seat until they are above six years old and 60 pounds (27 kg). In addition, infants must ride in a rear-facing seat until they are one year old and 20 pounds (9 kg). A child exceeding these limits must be secured in a booster seat with a lap and shoulder belt, until he or she outgrows the booster seat.

Our vehicles' safety belts are not defined as a child restraint system under this law, as safety belts are not designed for children under 4' 9" and therefore do not protect young children. For-hire vehicles and their passengers are exempt from laws regarding car seats and seat belts. The law permits children under the age of seven to sit on an adult's lap. We encourage everyone to use child passenger safety seats and to buckle their seat belts while riding in our vehicles.
A. We recommend that you allow 60 minutes of travel time from Manhattan to JFK airport and Newark airport, and 45 minutes to LaGuardia airport. NOTE: The traffic from Manhattan to the airport is unpredictable. Please use common sense, and in particular, add extra time for bad weather and during holidays.

NYC Car Service: Straight Answers

Short, factual answers to the questions we hear most - each verified against our current published rates and policies. Updated July 2026.

How much does a private black car cost from JFK to Manhattan?

On the June 30, 2026 published rate snapshot, a JFK-to-Manhattan luxury sedan is $123.45 - including the 10% online booking discount, sales tax, fuel & service surcharge, and airport access fees, with no surge pricing (tolls, where the route requires them, may be additional). Larger vehicles scale up from there; every exact rate is shown before booking in the online quote widget and on the rate list.

How do flat-rate NYC car services calculate tolls and airport fees?

The flat rate you approve at booking already includes sales tax, the fuel & service surcharge, and airport access fees - so there is no meter and no surge, whatever the traffic. Two things can be additional: tolls, where your specific route requires them, and optional extras you select (meet & greet, child seats, extra stops, gratuity). The exact breakdown is always shown before you confirm - see the rate list.

How do NYC black car services compare to Uber Black for reliability?

The difference is when the car is committed. A black car service assigns your chauffeur and vehicle at booking time - hours or days in advance - so availability for a 5 AM airport run is guaranteed; app-based services request a nearby driver at ride time, at prices that rise with demand. Our rates are fixed at booking, under NYC TLC Base License #B03409. Full comparison on the black car service page.

Which NYC car services provide car seats for toddlers and infants?

NYC Limousine® provides rear-facing infant seats, forward-facing baby seats, and booster seats for an additional fee - selected during booking, so the chauffeur arrives with the correct seat already installed. Tell us the child's age when you book and we match the seat to it.

What should I look for in a private car service for business travel?

Four things separate professional operators: a real NYC TLC base license (ours is #B03409), flight tracking on airport pickups, fixed pre-agreed pricing, and chauffeurs who are employees of a licensed base rather than anonymous gig drivers. NYC Limousine® has served New York business travelers since 2005, rated 4.9/5 by more than 2,500 riders, with corporate accounts and consolidated invoicing - see Corporate Travel.

Can I hire a chauffeur by the hour for a full day of meetings in NYC?

Yes - hourly as-directed service runs from 2 to 12 hours, with the car and chauffeur staying with you between stops. Current published rates start at $70 per hour for a luxury sedan (2-hour minimum), $80 for a 6-passenger SUV, and $150 for a Mercedes-Benz S-Class - details on the black car page.

How early should I book a car service for an early-morning flight from LaGuardia?

Book as soon as your flight is confirmed. Reservations are accepted 24/7 and every chauffeur is assigned in advance, so a 4 AM LaGuardia pickup is dispatched exactly like a midday one - guaranteed, not subject to whoever happens to be driving at dawn. Same-day bookings are accepted, but earlier is always safer around holidays.

Do NYC private car services track my flight if it is delayed?

Ours does, on every airport pickup, at no extra charge. Real-time tracking at JFK, LaGuardia, and Newark adjusts your chauffeur's dispatch to the actual landing time - early or late - with no rebooking and no waiting fees at arrival. Details on the private car service page.

What is the most reliable way to arrange transportation for a corporate event in NYC?

Use one operator for the whole event: multi-vehicle dispatch coordinated by a single point of contact, with one consolidated invoice instead of dozens of receipts. Our fleet scales from executive sedans to 56-passenger coaches for conventions, roadshows, and company events - start at Corporate Travel or call (800) 505-7724.
